Building collapse injures 2 construction workers

On Behalf of | Nov 15, 2023 | Construction Workers Accidents

Building collapses are among the top causes of work related injuries in the construction field in New Jersey. These accidents may happen due to inadequate foundations or faulty building materials. They often result in brain injuries, paralysis or even death. According to recent reports, two construction workers in another state suffered injuries in a building collapse.

How the construction accident happened

The recent building collapse took place on a Saturday. According to authorities, an old café building’s new owners were renovating the establishment when one of three construction field workers at the site became trapped in the building’s basement. The accident occurred when the foundation wall collapsed.

First responders spent two hours trying to free one of the construction workers. They finally removed him from the debris, but he suffered injuries from the waist down. He was transported to a medical center. The second injured worker received treatment for an injured leg. Officials said they planned to rebuild the establishment, starting from scratch.

How an attorney may help

Injured construction workers in New Jersey are entitled to workers’ compensation benefits that include medical treatment, out of work benefits and a settlement award at the end of the case. An experienced workers’ compensation attorney can help them navigate the system to not only make sure they recover all of these benefits, but maximize their recovery of all of these benefits. In a traumatic accident these benefits can be substantial. Therefore, it would be wise to seek the counsel of an attorney who knows how the system works from top to bottom.
