Cranes are an integral component of many construction projects in New Jersey, but their improper assembly or use may jeopardize construction workers’ lives and safety. According to recent reports, a construction field worker was killed after being struck by a crane during a workplace accident in another state. Four other individuals were hurt in the afternoon crane collapse.

How the crane accident happened

The recent crane incident took place at about 12:15 p.m. on a Saturday at a hospital campus. Authorities said a crane was holding heavy equipment for a hospital renovation. The 200-foot equipment then reportedly plummeted on individuals underneath. One worker died due to the impact of the crane.

Four people suffered injuries, two of them serious injuries, and were transported to area medical centers for treatment. Their conditions were deemed stable. Reports suggest that no patients were injured at the building where the crane incident occurred, although several were removed from the rooms near the accident site.

How a workers’ compensation attorney can help

Although experiencing a construction incident can be daunting, dealing with the physical and financial repercussions of the accident may also prove overwhelming. This is why hiring a workers’ compensation attorney is a wise move. An attorney in New Jersey may help injured workers or the dependents of deceased workers seek the full amount of compensation to which they are entitled given the circumstances surrounding the workplace accident. Workers’ compensation benefits should cover any medical or funeral expenses stemming from the accident.
