Injured workers cite multiple issues in claims against Amazon

Companies of all sizes face challenges when it comes to issues of worker safety. While it may be easier for larger companies to provide the resources for workers to stay safe on the job, accidents and injuries still occur at large businesses.

For instance, Amazon (which has a fulfillment center here in New Jersey) has been the target of numerous allegations from injured workers recently, and their claims reflect some of the common issues workers at all kinds of companies face when it comes to seeking compensation after a work accident.

Below are some of the complaints made by workers who claim to have been hurt on the job:

  • A 43-year-old man says he was fired after being injured, and the company never filed a claim after he reported the injury.
  • A 49-year-old woman says she was routinely sent home without pay after a work injury left her unable to perform her duties; she also says the insurer told her doctor to stop treating her.
  • Another worker claims Amazon refused to provide him with workers' compensation information and cut his benefits short.
  • Other employees reportedly quit instead of reporting workplace illnesses or injuries.
  • One man says he was put back on full duty, despite doctor recommendations that he work on light duty.

These cases, which readers can read more about in this article from The Guardian, can serve as a reminder to workers across New Jersey that even seemingly straightforward workers' compensation claims can turn into a frustrating legal battle.

Because of this, it is wise to talk to an attorney after any workplace accident. With legal guidance, you can work to avoid costly missteps that might jeopardize your claim. Working with an attorney can also mean having support when responding to an employer or insurance company that acts improperly.
